Jesus cries out, “It is finished.” He then says, “Father, into your hands, I commit my spirit.” And then he breathes his last breath. The guards stab him from his side to make sure that he is dead. The visible suffering of the Messiah is over, but his journey is not over, and his salvific action for us is not over. There is still more to come. There is still more that he will do for us.
